    Home Care Instructions

Your surgeon has placed a double-tube airway inside your nasal passages. This device lets you breathe normally after nose and/or sinus surgery, even if your nose has been “packed.”

To keep the tubes clear, you’ll be given a small syringe with a plastic tip to take home. You or your caretaker can easily and painlessly flush the tubes to remove any blood or mucus buildup. Before you leave, your recovery room nurse will attach the tip to the syringe and show you and your caretaker exactly how to flush the airway tubes.

    Flushing Instructions

    1. Fill the syringe with 3 cc of warm (not hot) tap water.
    2. Insert the tip into the airway tube.

    3. Gently flush the water through.

      • The water will flow into your throat. You may swallow it or spit it out.

    4. Flushing Schedule:

      • Day of Surgery: Every 4 hours, plus once during the night.

      • Starting Day 2 and Onward: 2–3 times during the day is usually enough.

    5. If you cannot clear the tubes, call your surgeon for further instructions.

    Removal

Your surgeon will remove the airway in the office during a scheduled follow-up visit. Because it’s made of soft, latex-free, medical-grade silicone that doesn’t stick to the inside of your nose, the removal process is quick and virtually painless.

If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to call your surgeon.
